My Experience with alcoholdelivery.com.sg

Recently, I made a rather disappointing purchase from alcoholdelivery.com.sg. I ordered six cans of Heineken, a bottle of Jim Beam Black label and a 1.5 litre bottle of Coca Cola.

I made the purchase from Alcohol Delivery because:

1. They have a nice looking website. I hoped they would be well-run.
2. The convenience. I didn’t want to carry so much stuff home.
3. They promised speedy, 1-hour delivery.
4. Drinks are served chilled.

Delivering chilled drinks in 1 hours is their main selling point. The problem is that they failed to deliver on both accounts for my order.

My experience started out well enough. Within 10 minutes of placing my order online, someone called me to confirm it. I did so, and while I had the person on the phone, I gave him exact instructions on how to reach my home. I realize that my home can be pretty tricky to locate, so I try to give simple, but specific instructions to delivery people whenever I can.

“Ok,” the man from Alcohol Delivery said, “you will receive your order in 1 hour.”

75 minutes later and not a peep from them. So I give them a call to check on my order. To their credit, I didn’t have to wait long to speak to someone, but I was slightly miffed when the person said that it would take 1.5 hours for my delivery due to a large amount of orders.

I informed him that the previous person I spoke to told me that the delivery would only take 1 hour. If they had been more upfront about the delivery time, I would have managed my expectations accordingly. He said he would check on the status of the order and get back to me.

He never did.

2 hours after I placed my order, the delivery van finally pulled up to my home. I literally nearly fell asleep waiting for the order.

I chew the fat with the young delivery man, who struck me as being nice and polite fellow, as he handed me a bag with my order. I paid him and hauled my bounty to the kitchen to make myself a bourbon and coke.

What happened next, added to my incredulity  The Heineken was chilled and the Jim Beam, understandably, was not. But I was slightly miffed that the Coca Cola was not chilled. Cola is used as a cold mixer for most alcoholic drinks, so I was surprised and perplexed at why a store that specializes in selling ready-to-drink alcohol would delivery room temperature Cola.

Is there a room temperature Cola cocktail I don’t know about?

Ok, I know these drinks are usually mixed with ice, so maybe I’m nitpicking. No need to kick up a fuss over that right?

Should I kick up a fuss when I open the Coke bottle and it sprays everywhere? Yes I should. It was like the bottle was placed in a paint can shaker, or maybe they boiled it beforehand. Maybe there is  a hot Cola cocktail out there.

Bourbon and coke was supposed to help me unwind after a long day. It shouldn't be winding me up more at the end of it.

I spent a good ten minutes cleaning up the kitchen, and my expensive Sony Nex5R camera, which I used to take these photos, when all I wanted was to usher in the weekend with a bourbon and coke.

Honestly, my experience with Alcohol Delivery wasn’t great. It wasn’t terrible either (the staff are polite), but the next time I buy alcohol online, I will probably consider one of their competitors like 247 Alcohol Delivery or Mabuk Monkey. I’m lucky that I wasn’t entertaining any guests. If I had to rely on them for a party or a BBQ, I’d be even more upset.

  1. Honestly what i experienced was opposite though it took time naturally you wont find it chilled i knew this so i had ordered in advance. But it was all time saving i only had to concentrate on cooking and plus everything happend sitting at home only.
So i would say i had a pleasant time with them.

    1. I may just do that. I gave AlcoholDelivery.com another chance and they got my order wrong. Instead of trying to correct it, they asked if I would accept the mistake. Obviously, I declined.

  2. i placed an order for 30 cans of beer. by the time they arrived, the party was over and most have left.
1 hour turned into a 3 hour wait. unacceptable. i could have simply driven out and be back within 10 mins.
their only saving grace, polite staff.
