Why I love my Singapore Sports Council gym

I love the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) gym located near the Hougang swimming pool. I’ve been using this gym for years, and while it is not as well furnished as some of the other gyms I’ve visited, it remains one of my favourites.

Location

My SSC gym is a measly 10-minute bus ride from my home. Great for weekends and holidays.

Price

SSC gyms charge $2.50 per entry. That’s a steal compared to commercial gyms!

Friendly staff

The staff at the Hougang SSC gym are very friendly. I see Adam, James, and William on a weekly basis. They’re always approachable and are willing to help newcomers. It’s not uncommon to see them teaching newbies how to use the machines, or ‘spotting’ weight-lifters attempting heavy loads.

This is in stark contrast to some commercial gyms that require you to hire a personal trainer if you require any assistance/spotting.

Excellent variety of machines

The Hougang SSC gym has an excellent variety of machines. Though not quite as well-equipped as the old National Stadium gym, the SSC gym has dedicated machines/equipment for every muscle group sans the calves.

I have found the SSC gym at Hougang to be an excellent place to exercise. The relaxed atmosphere, excellent service and unparalled convenience makes it an excellent choice for heartlanders looking to lose some weight and gain some muscle.
