Quartet Work
I had a nice time working on some small group material with Heng Nai (HN) Lim, Jessphine and my buddy Jeremy. HN was kind enough to open his beautiful home to us and his family hosted us for this get-together. I had a great time and it’s a pity that we didn’t have more time. The Lim family are truly wonderful hosts and we couldn’t have asked for more hospitality.
I also managed to play some duet material with HN and look forward to working on more material with him.
On facebook, Ernest Kwok playfully described the above photo as the “The new Singapore Guitar Quartet”, to which I said it was more like the “Serangoon North Guitar Quartet.”
Stacey-Jane Douglas
Despite a sudden cancellation, I finally had the opportunity to meet with Stacey-Jane Douglas, a singer, songwriter and composer from the UK, currently living in Singapore. Her songs and compositions draw upon influences of Folk, Jazz, Blues and World Music influences. She has a wonderful singing voice and is a very talented musician. She has a Post Graduate Degree in Music Therapy (Cambridge) and has worked in London as a Musician, State Registered Music Therapist and a Music Teacher.
While she was growing up she obtained a Grade 8 certification from the Associated Board and she’s still got great classical guitar chops! I had a marvellous time working on complex classical guitar duet pieces together. She has excellent technical skills and is a very musical classical guitarist. Typically, it takes me awhile to get used to playing with other musicians so I was surprised when our styles meshed together quite quickly.
I also took her out for Thai food at Nakhon Kitchen, where we had oatmeal prawns, honey chicken, Thai fishcakes and kangkong belachan style (I also had too much Thai iced tea).
Stacey current works at the International School Singapore, where she teaches the lucky children there. She is highly trained in music education and it’s a terrible pity that her expertise are not available to Singaporean students. On the flip -side, she’s looking to gig more often so we’ll have that to look forward to.
She also has lovely recordings on her website, so make sure you check it out!
